We are constantly searching for ways to bring balance into our lives. Balance between work and play, friends and family, sport and relaxation etc. Finding this balance across the board is a crucial factor and often over-looked, in allowing us to be the healthiest and happiest version of ourselves. Yin Yoga provides the perfect balance to Power Yoga or Yang Yoga practises.

In this luxurious 2 hour workshop, Jo Arthur will guide you through a series of poses that will help to bring a flexibility to your body and calming to your mind.

What is Yin Yoga?

While yang-like yoga practices are more superficial, Yin offers a much deeper access to the body. Yin yoga works by encouraging the release of deep connective tissue that surround common problem areas, in particular the hips, hamstrings, groin & gluteals.

It’s magic lies within the technique. In order to access this deep release, postures are held for three to five, even 10 minutes at a time. Parallel to the nature of the practise, this deep stretch offers very rich rewards. Not only will you discover a powerfully deep release of physical tension, but also a dramatic improvement in energy flow and perhaps even a new willingness to let go of a few stuck emotions that no longer serve you.

Is Yin Yoga for me?

In Yin, it’s about your UNIQUE body and finding the pose that is right for you; no matter how young, old, flexible or stiff you are! It doesn’t matter if you can’t touch your toes or hold a pigeon pose, it’s all the more reason to do Yin Yoga. You’ll be amazed at how much it improves your flexibility and brings a feeling of lightness to the body.

In Yin we use many props and blankets to ensure poses are easily accessible and that everyone is in the right environment to completely relax. You will make your little yin nest and snuggle down for a luxurious few hours of a slow and calm practise filled with deeply releasing and nourishing poses.

Jo Arthur is a Yin Yoga & Power Yoga Teacher & ambassador for Sweaty Betty.  Jo initially trained at TPYC and has studied Yin Yoga & Anatomy with Paul Grilley, the godfather of Yin Yoga.
