Postnatal classes are held three times a week. Your babes are welcomed with open arms!
Postnatal classes are suitable from around 6 weeks after your babe is born until they start to crawl around the studio. If you have had a c section it is important to check with your GP (usually at 6-7 weeks) that you are ready to join the class. You will know when you feel ready, do contact Lulu directly with any questions about starting.
During this hour of yoga we release tension in the shoulders and upper backs that often get so locked from feeding and carrying. We also work on strengthening the abdominal and pelvic floor muscles.
We use specific postures that are helpful and beneficial at this time and have the opportunity to begin exploring new strength as you progress with your practice. That means that some mammas may end the class working through sun salutations at their own pace or revisiting other pre-pregnancy favourites. We explore new poses from one week to the next as well as some dedicated pranayama. There is no pressure and Lulu carefully and respectfully guides the class to embrace everyone’s individual needs.
During your practice your babe rests next to you or if they need a bit of company Lulu is on hand to carry them around the studio (and get her baby fix!). If you are anxious that your babe may cry then rest assured that this is normal and part of what these classes are all about. Sometimes they need to feed or just want mamma to cuddle – we work around the little ones and anything goes! There are blankets at the studio but you may like to bring your own or a lambskin for your little one to lie on.
These classes are a wonderful opportunity to connect with friends you met at pregnancy yoga or to make some new ones. Babies, yoga and new friends – a fabulous afternoon!
